The other day I had a fellow yoga teacher ask me, “what’s a good song for my yoga playlist?”
As a yoga teacher, I put a lot of effort into my playlists. They have to create a mood, set a scene, spread love and joy. They have to flow like my sequence, and evoke emotions. So random songs need not apply.
For me, music can make or break a yoga class. I have been to many studios across the country and learned under some amazing teachers, but if they have the wrong music, the lessons fall on deaf ears.
I actually once had a lady play loud techno music the whole way through the class. I could barely hear her and I left feeling agitated and wired up. Yet another man was yelling order at us like we were in military boot camp. No sir, I like my yoga classes to leave you feeling blissed out.
Here are my 10 favorite yoga songs for your class playlist:
1. Guru Ram Das by Gurunam Singh
2. Let Go by Frou Frou
3. Ma by Guru Ganesha Singh
4. Days Go By (Acoustic) by Dirty Vegas
5. Porcelain by Moby
6. Homage to Krishna by Deva Premal
7. Coins in a Fountain by Passenger
8. I am by Guru Singh and Seal
9. Keep Breathing by Ingrid Michaelson
10. Long Time Sun by Snatam Kaur
