Navigating through this crazy world, we all go through our ups and downs.

Even the most positive person can have a few set backs. But I’ve come to realize that even in our down moments, we can take something and learn from it.

At those moments I remind myself of these 8 lessons:

1. Be Kind.

Even if that person walking just slammed into my arm without even a wave of “oh gosh I am sorry” – It’s OK. They are just trying to navigate through life – just like I am.

“Be Kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle”- Plato

2. Smile.

When someone random is nice to me or even just smiles I FEEL SO GOOD. I should do the same to others. Give people a smile, spread the happiness around.

“Smiles are free, but they are worth a lot.” – Anonymous

3. Breathe.

So many fears hit me each day, but why? What is supposed to happen will happen. I will get through it.

“Remember to breathe. It is, after all, the secret to life.” – Gregory Mcguire

4. Let Go of Ego.

We are our soul bodies, not our EGO. Stop and think- is this me? Or my human ego responding to the situation? What would a loving soul do?

You don’t have a soul.  You are a Soul.  You have a body.”  – C.S. Lewis

5. Life is a School.

We are here to learn and elevate our souls. Mistakes and challenges allow us to learn- so have fun with it.

“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” ― Haruki Murakami

6. Life is an Adventure.

If something stressful pops up- you have to realize that you cannot change other people, you cannot change some situations, at the end of the day you can only change your thoughts. Instead of living in fear of frustration, you can say,“What an adventure! I can’t wait to see the outcome.”

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” — Henry David Thoreau

7. Are These My True Feelings?

If you are a highly empathetic person, like I am, you have to differentiate between your feelings and the feelings of those around you. Ask yourself, “am I taking on the feelings of people around me or are these truly my feelings?” Get in touch with your own emotions and feelings and stay true to yourself.

“It’s your road and yours alone. Others may walk it with you, but no one can walk it FOR you.” – Rumi

8. LOVE.

The meaning of life is to find love and spread love. The love we seek is inside. This goes back to number one: show love, be kind, we are all in this together in this scary thing called life. Be compassionate.

“Because I always have a choice, I choose love.”
